New Health Unit in The Heat of the Valley

FULLY FUNDED

The Himal Foundation inaugurated the first ever health unit in the area of Sidhing. Only a few months ago patients would have had to take a 3 hours jeep ride to the closest health unit. This is an ongoing project with at the moment a team of one doctor and one nurse who is specialized in midwifery. The building includes one consultation room, one maternity room and a small office for the staff. We are currently looking for funding to improve the installations as well as more medical support. The number of patients increases every day with over 30 patients on a very busy day.

This project started after realising there was a complete lack of very basic and primary equipment nearby. People in the valley, would not be able to cure a simple wound because of lack of equipment nearby, even to get simple desinfectant supposed a very long and expensive trip, therefore, leaving locals to neglect certain wounds which would then become a major infection. We gathered the Himal Foundation team and urged to find a way to solve this by creating a small but extremely usefull Health unit in the heart of the valley. We all rapidly agreed and this was done in a very short period of time and with the kind assistance of our local Doctor and nurse. This Health unit is privately owned which means we choose and check all medicines available. Our Doctor can take care of every first aid and basic medicine, it has now become very popular and we would love to make it bigger with more equipment so we can assist more people.

The maternity unit and our lovely midwife and nurse, is still yet to welcome a newborn but definitly usefull to have for other female health issues. Women in valley work outdoors on the fields most of the time, even at 8 or 9 months pregnant, therefore they tend to give birth outside, however we are now helping them to take care of their newborns and themselves and if they wish they have the option of having a baby in a maternity ward.

We need more equipment for newborns, such as blankets, basic scales, and whatever you can donate newborn related, except pushchairs which are really not helpfull in a hilly valley.

This Health centre has now become essential, especially, after the pandemic started.
